Experience Our eBook and Audiobook Download Service with the Digital Bookmobile

Learn how easy it is to download your favorite books and more to your e-reader, smartphone or other portable device when the Digital Bookmobile National Tour stops at the Yorba Linda Library.

The Digital Bookmobile will be in the lower parking lot of the Library on Monday, February 13, 1:00-7:00 p.m. Children and adult readers of all ages can learn how to download free e-books and audiobooks from the library's collection through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos.

A gadget gallery - featuring an iPod touch, Amazon Kindle, Android tablet, NOOK, Sony Reader, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and more - will give visitors hands-on experience with portable devices that are compatible with the library's downloadable collection.

The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside a 74-foot, 18-wheel tractor-trailer - a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades. Interactive learning stations will give visitors an opportunity to search the library's digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample e-books and audiobooks.

Library card holders can take advantage of the download service 24/7 through the library's website, where they can choose from the growing audio and e-book collection of bestsellers, new releases, and classics. Many audio titles can also be burned to an audio CD. At the end of the lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection.

Midwinter Tea

We would like to thank all of our patrons who attended our Midwinter Tea, as well as our special guests Jeddy, from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and Claudia, from Tea and Teacups. It was a lovely event! Unfortunately, the scone recipe that we provided was slightly incorrect. The corrected recipe may be found below. Enjoy!

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup shortening

1/3 cup milk
1 egg

Directions

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Then cut in the butter and shortening until crumbly. Make a well in this mixture and add 1/3 cup milk and 1 egg. Mix well and then knead dough lightly. Place a large tablespoon of dough for each scone on baking sheet. Bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

The Library is planning for the future!

The Yorba Linda Public Library facility has served its community well for over 50 years, but is showing signs of its age and heavy use. Because the library receives an average of over 1,100 visitors per day, a report was commissioned to study the facility's current conditions and the library's future service needs. On August 2, 2011 the City Council authorized funding for a new library facility!
